ABOUT TULUM

Tulum is a quiet, eco-friendly beach town on the east coast of Mexico. It’s known for it’s great beaches, #cleaneats, beach front yoga, and all around good energy. We spent a week in Tulum in February 2020 and absolutely fell in love with it, and we can’t wait for you to experience it with us! Here are some of our favorite things to do (& eat) in the area:

things to do

Most hotels in the hotel zone have private beaches. The public beaches are also great and a quick taxi ride away!

Relax on the beach

Depending on where you’re staying, you can rent a bike and check out the ruins–some of the most impressive in Mexico.

Tulum town is where you can find incredible tacos, souviner shops, and a more traditional vibe.

No trip to Tulum is complete without seeing a cenote. You can book a local tour guide to go cave swimming.

Tulum has an abundance of great yoga. We hope you can relax with some beachside namaste.

Great casual smoothies & acai bowl joint on the beach.

raw love

Our favorite. The menu changes nightly based on local availability. Make a reservation the month before!

hartwood

Another amazing farm-to-table restaurant. Book early!

kitchen table

Brick over pizza with a laid back vibe on the beach.

posada margherita

A bit of a scene if that’s your thing, but great margaritas.

gitano

Here’s your moment for the ‘gram. This bar is located up in the trees (a literal giant treehouse).

azulik

Tulum has some of the most incredible food in the world with new places popping up all the time. Keep in mind you need a reservation ahead of time for many of the nicer restaurants, and many are cash only.

tip #6

double check your passport

Mexico requires your passport to be valid for 6 months after your trip—make sure you’re up to date! It takes 10-12 weeks to renew your passport via mail.

tip #5

the deal with taxis & traffic

Taxis are available, but can get pricey within the Hotel Zone specifically. Additionally, the Hotel Zone is a dirt road and traffic can be heavy at times. Plan accordingly!

tip #4

take care of your tummy

Tulum is all about fresh, farm-to-table food, so your chances of getting sick are slim. But we still like to recommend taking a powerful probiotic like this one leading up to the trip.

tip #3

don't drink the water

We recommend you bring a water bottle that you can fill up with the filtered water your hotel will provide so you can stay hydrated!

tip #2

get pesos ahead of time

Many Tulum establishments are cash
only and will accept USD, but you’ll get the best rate if you pay in local currency. ATMs are available for a charge.

tip #1

bring plenty of sunscreen

It’s very expensive to buy when you get there! We’re looking at you, Irish people ;)

things to keep in mind for your travels

explore the options

Good news! Tulum is magical & we know you’ll love it as much as we do. Not so good news! The rest of the world seems to think so too, which means that post-pandemic Tulum is quite a bit pricier than it’s been in the past. If you’re planning on celebrating with us, we highly recommend you book ASAP, as we anticipate prices continuing to rise. Our “Travel” page has a comprehensive list of places to stay across a wide variety of budgets.
